Dave Ramsey Live in Oak Cliff- Don't Miss Out!

Dave Ramsey will be presenting a Total Money Makeover seminar on Saturday, March 13 at The Potter's House from noon until five pm.
Tickets for Dave Ramsey Live start at $43 if you purchase them on-line. However, they are only $25 if purchased through the church office. (The church does not get a commission on the tickets- but we are willing to make time to process discount ticket orders so that our members can benefit from Dave's ministry.)
Tyler Street UMC is committed to the Biblical financial principles which Dave teaches. We have offered Financial Peace University for four years running and our finance committee believes that FPU has helped our members survive the recession and support the work of the church through giving. We believe that this live event will be a blessing for FPU grads as well as those who have never heard Dave Ramsey's teaching before. There are no gimmicks and no empty "name-it-and-claim-it" promises. Dave delivers simple, Biblical principles aimed to help you get real, get ready, and get out of debt. It will be an entertaining, challenging, and encouraging few hours that can transform the way you live and deepen our faith.
Dave's staff in Nashville informed us on Tuesday that the event is almost sold out. So if you want tickets at the discounted rate, please e-mail John Wilks or call 214-946-8106 to reserve your tickets ASAP!

Call To Serve: Haiti

Dear Tyler Streeters,
Bishop W. Earl Bledsoe has declared the next two Sundays, January 17th and 24th, as Special Offering Days for Haiti through donations to the United Methodist Committee on Relief Haiti Emergency Response Fund.
Because our apportionment giving already covers the overhead for the United Methodist Committee on Relief, 100% of the funds collected during these special offerings will go directly to Haiti- not one penny will be used on administrative costs. Giving through the church is the most efficient way to get help where it is needed.
This Sunday, you can make out checks to Tyler Street and simply write Haiti on the memo line.
If you are out this Sunday, you can either mail a check to the church office (927 W 10th Street Dallas, TX 75208) or you can even donate on-line through UMCOR.
Please prayerfully consider how God wants to respond to this crisis.

Tyler Street Loves Oak Cliff

Dear Tyler Streeters,
No doubt, most of you can recite John 3:16 by heart. We know that God sent Jesus into the world because of His love for all of us.
But how often do we realize that God sends the Church, which His Son founded, into the world for the exact same reason?
Our God loves Oak Cliff. He loves every person in who lives, works, shops, dines, or plays in Oak Cliff. And God wants us to love them too!
That is why we are asking every small group at Tyler Street (Sunday School Classes, youth and children’s ministry, the Choir, the staff, off-campus groups- etc.) to get out there and show Oak Cliff the love of God through our service and our fellowship!
We want each group to select a ministry or charity other than the CSO, the Manor, or the Academy, and do a service project for them sometime between now and February 14.
You could fold clothes for Goodwill or the Salvation Army, or do a diaper drive in front of Wal Mart for a crisis pregnancy center or serve a meal at a soup kitchen or put on an evening of entertainment at a nursing home or collect toiletries for a homeless shelter and so on- any project where your class or group gets together, gets out into the community, and makes a difference for the sake of Jesus Christ.
Then, on Sunday, February 14, after the 10:50 service, you are all invited to a potluck lunch in Anderson Hall to celebrate our efforts.
It is our hope that this experience of service will deepen our faith, help provide a powerful bonding moment for every class and group, and (most importantly) give us a chance to share the Gospel with the people of Oak Cliff.
When your class or group has picked a project, please call me at 214-946-8106 or e-mail johnwilks@tsumc.org and let me know when and where your group will be doing your project.
If your class needs suggestions or if you don’t belong to a class yet and want to find a group to serve with, contact me and I will point you in the right direction.
So let’s all work together and give Oak Cliff a Valentine straight from the heart of God!
Grace and peace,
John Wilks
Associate Pastor
