A Collect for the Second Sunday in Advent:

Father God,

who looked with mercy upon the human race
when we fell into sin and death

and made way for our salvation
by the advent of Your only-begotten Son,

Grant that all who receive Your Son as the Incarnate Word

will be admitted into the fellowship of our Redeemer.

This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit.

Almighty God,

give us grace to cast away the works of darkness,

and put on the armor of light,

now in the time of this mortal life

in which your Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility;

that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty

to judge both the living and the dead,

we may rise to the life immortal;

through him who lives

and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen.

violence and even death for Your Sake.

Comfort those who suffer
and strengthen the resolve of those facing persecution,

that they may share Your love in the midst of hatred.

And move us, who worship You in safety and comfort,

to do what ever we can to assist our brothers and sisters in the faith who suffer.

May Your hand protect Your Church,

so that we may draw the world unto You.
