because it cannot continue in safety without your help, protect and govern it
always by your goodness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

From the Book of Common Prayer, ECUSA, 1979 edition.

Food for thought:

“Jesus came for one purpose and one purpose alone to bring Himself to us and in bringing Himself to bring God. Not only does He justify us by providing full pardon for our sin, He indwells us to give us the power to be and do all those things God requires us to be and do.”

From the Book of Common Prayer, ECUSA, 1979 edition.

Food for thought:

“If naïveté means to trust in God who will defend us, to live without affectation and without hidden agendas or dishonest motives, then it is a godly thing.”

As a child of the 80s, I grew up on hair bands and glam rock. It is little surprise that when I became a Christian back in 1990, my youth minister got me hooked on Petra.

Looking back, it all seems kind of cheesy. OK, OK, it is really cheesy. But oh, back in the day, Petra really ministered to me.

So love 'em or hate 'em, here are the granddaddies (literally) of Christian rock at their mullet-and-synthesizer best.

through the worthiness of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

Amen.

From the Book of Common Prayer, ECUSA, 1979 edition.

Food for thought:

“As the Holy Spirit continues to work in our lives, we begin to think less about ourselves and more about others. We begin to see the needs of others and wonder, if I don't do something, who will?”

Taize is an ecumenical nondenominational monastic community which has become famous for its music and prayers. At Taize, elements of ancient Catholic and Eastern Orthodox traditions are woven with the sensibilities of modern praise and worship in the mold of early Vineyard and Maranatha offerings to create a simple, meditative music equally at home in both charismatic and liturgical worship settings.

Below is the song "Jesus, remember me when you come into Your kingdom" along with various images of Christ as depicted by artists throughout the centuries.

The lyrics come from Luke 23:43 and were originally spoken by one of the two thieves who were crucified along side Jesus. Whenever I hear that passage or this song, I remember that we Christians are not promised an end to all hardship in this life. Instead, God promises a home in the Kingdom which has, is, and will come through Jesus Christ.

I often find myself humming this tune when the burdens of life seem poised to overwhelm me. I hope it ministers to you as much as it does to me!
