(The Old Testament reading for this week comes from the Apocryphal book of Wisdom,
which is not found in most Protestant Bibles. I have therefor left it off.)

Prayer:
Almighty and everlasting God,
you are always more ready to hear than we to pray,
and give more than either we desire or deserve.
Pour down upon us the abundance of your mercy,
forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid and
giving us those good things which we are not worthy to ask
save through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ your Son our Lord;
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Food for thought:
“The Christian vocation is to be in prayer, in the Spirit, at the place where the world is in pain, and as we embrace that vocation, we discover it to be the way of following Christ, shaped according to his messianic vocation to the cross, with arms outstretched, holding on simultaneously to the pain of the world and to the love of God.”
