Music Fridays- Liturgy, Mozart, and Modern Music: Part 1

Mozart's Mass in C Minor is a full communion liturgy set to some of the most beautiful music ever composed. It opens with the Kyrie:


The lyrics are:

Kyrie eleison.

Christe eleison.

Kyrie eleison.

Which translates to:

Lord, have mercy upon us.

Christ, have mercy upon us.

Lord, have mercy upon us.

These lyrics are an ancient prayer which has been in church tradition reaching back to the earliest forms of Christian worship. (Wikipedia has a handy article on the history of the Kyrie.)
